Meet Amiira and Leo who talk about what they do in their free time and why it's important for children to have control over their free time.
- For me, free time is when I come home after school and can do whatever I want before homework. Sometimes I want to go for a coffee, sometimes to watch a movie or play a game.
- Leisure for me is when I exercise. It's also when I'm home alone, quiet and calm and can do what I want. Otherwise, it's fun when friends come over and you can socialize and laugh together. The thing is to do what you feel like.
- I have a lot of free time! Leo replies. "I only have homework at home and I help out and look after my little siblings sometimes. They are four years old and twins. Otherwise I have free time.
Apart from some scheduled trainings, Leo has a lot of time to do what he feels like. Leo says he enjoys helping out at home.
- It's nice to feel that I'm doing something useful. What I do is appreciated and I get encouragement and praise!
- Children must also help out and not take for granted that everything will be served. It doesn't help the family. You can mix leisure time with helping out at home and find a good balance.
- It is also good to learn how to take care of yourself and a home.
Leo and Amiira agree that too little is when there is more work than play. That's when you feel grumpy, irritable, tired and sad.
Both answer: yes! Amiira likes to go shopping with her mother, they watch movies and eat food. Leo and his mom sometimes cook together.
