Core Humanitarian Standard

At Erikshjälpen, we work every day to support people in both short-term and long-term crises. An important part of our work with quality assurance is to use the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS), an international standard that helps us measure and improve the quality of our humanitarian work.

CHS - quality assurance of humanitarian work

To ensure that our humanitarian work is of high quality and accountable, since 2023 we have been a member of the CHS Alliance - a global network working to uphold a global standard for quality and accountability in humanitarian work: the Core Humanitarian Standard on Quality and Accountability (CHS).

These are the Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS)

The Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS) contains nine commitments that ensure organisations support people and communities in crisis in a way that respects their rights and dignity. The standard also emphasizes that affected people should have an active role in finding solutions to the challenges they face.

CHS is a globally recognized and measurable standard for quality and accountability in humanitarian action. It aims to create equitable and collaborative relationships between those who provide Support and those who receive it, and to reduce power imbalances.

For an organization to live up to the CHS commitments, a supporting structure that enables a systematic approach is required.

Our CHS self-assessment process is verified by the CHS Alliance

We recently completed our first CHS self-evaluation. The evaluation is based on surveys and interviews with those reached by our interventions, partners and staff - as well as a thorough review of our steering documents. The report was finalized in December 2024 and Erikshjälpen's (ERIKS Development partner) CHS self-assessment process was verified by the CHS Alliance in early 2025.
