'Ordinary week' is the week before the big shopping weekend of the year, Black Friday. Most of our second-hand shops have extended opening hours during the week, to encourage consumers to shop in a circular and sustainable way.
In addition to the extended opening hours, it is a regular week in Erikshjälpen's second hand shops. Erikshjälpen Second Hand contributes to a sustainable society 365 days a year.
During Black Week and in the run-up to Black Friday, retailers shout out their discounts and, at the other end of the spectrum, make sustainability claims to improve their image. Every year, new sales records are broken, while the effects of the climate crisis are increasingly felt. Legislation, global agreements and climate reports speak volumes - yet companies continue to produce, and people continue to consume, new products.
- "It's time to change our view of what is a normal way of consuming," says Cathrine Kylesten. For example, how can it be that sleeping in a hotel bed is considered cozy, but at the same time you can't imagine buying sheets second hand?
We also want to take this opportunity to question norms about consumption.
How can it be common to think that second-hand clothes are unsafe while buying new clothes full of harmful chemicals?
We have stores all over Sweden and also two stores in Norway. Welcome to shop second hand in one of our stores.
