Listening Many people are familiar with Erikshjälpen, but who was Erik? In this lecture, Birgitta Johansson, who worked at Erikshjälpen for eleven years, shares the story of Erik, Ulla, and the history of Erikshjälpen.
It is the 1940s, and in a hospital, a seriously ill and lonely boy dreams of making a difference—even though no one sees how he could possibly accomplish anything. As a teenager, he begins sending letters and gifts to other sick children. This marks the beginning of Erikshjälpen.
Today, Erikshjälpen works to promote children’s rights and future in 16 countries and is one of Sweden’s largest secondhand chains. But behind the organization lies the story of Erik Nilsson—the son, husband, and father who devoted his life to helping others, despite his own limitations.
Birgitta Johansson is giving a lecture
Birgitta Johansson is retired and worked at Erikshjälpen for 11 years. Among other things, she helped launch the successful concept Erikshjälpen Framtidsverkstad—a concept in which children, young people, and parents work together to foster optimism and hope for the future in areas of Sweden facing socioeconomic challenges. And now she tells the story of Erik, Ulla, and Erikshjälpen.

Welcome to “A Christmas Concert” 2026 with Jon Peterson, FOLK, and Jonas Sandwall, featuring special guests Peter Hallström and Martina Möllås this year.
The “A Christmas Concert” concept was launched 18 years ago by Jon Peterson and his band FOLK, together with Jonas Sandwall. The tradition continues, andthis year, you’re invited to an evening filled with joy, great music, and the wonderful spirit of Christmas.
Guest artists of the year
This year’s guest artists are none other than Peter Hallström and Martina Möllås. Together with Jon Peterson, FOLK, and Jonas Sandwall, they’ll all be on stage throughout the concert, taking turns performing each other’s songs. In addition to the artists’ own songs, the evening will feature several classic and beloved Christmas carols!
A Christmas concert that conveys hope
For the artists, it is important that “A Christmas Concert” conveys hope—not only to the audience but also to children and families living in vulnerable situations. During the evening, you as a guest will have the opportunity to contribute to Erikshjälpen’s work to strengthen children’s rights around the world.
“We probably wouldn’t have been able to keep this up for so many years if it weren’t for a higher purpose—namely, to make the world a better place and give people hope,” says Jon Peterson.
