Create a movie about the UNCRC

Pupils at Rosenlund School in Jönköping explain why filmmaking is a good way to work with children's rights. Here you will find step-by-step instructions on how to make a movie about the UNCRC. You will also find exercises to guide students through the process of scripting, storyboarding, filming and editing. You can then celebrate the finished films with a film premiere in the classroom.

Why make a film about the UNCRC?

At Rosenlundsskolan in Jönköping, students in grade 6 have learned more about children's rights through the Convention on the Rights of the Child. They have then created films so that more children can learn about their rights. In the movie below, the students describe why they wanted to make a movie.

How to make a film about the UNCRC?

Creating your own movie doesn't have to be difficult. Your movie does not need to be longer than 2-3 minutes. Follow these 6 steps and you'll soon have your own movie about the UNCRC.

1. read on

Read and learn more about the UNCRC.

 

2. Choose an article to immerse yourself in

Choose one of the 54 articles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child to feature in your film. Immerse yourself in the article you have chosen. Erikshjälpen Rafiki has prepared questions that you can answer in your movie.

 

3. Write the script for the movie

Write down what the movie will contain. In Erikshjälpen Rafiki's storyboard, you can fill in how you intend to film. You draw what will be seen in each shot and write who says what.

 

4. time to film!

Now it's time for you to film. Follow your script and storyboard from start to finish. Cheer each other on and watch the clips you make.

 

5. edit

Now it's time to put your movie clips together into a movie. Maybe you want to add text, images and backgrounds? Maybe you need to cut out some clips so the movie isn't too long? Editing a short movie takes a long time, but it's worth the effort and can be fun! The movie should be 2-3 minutes long.

What would a movie be without a premiere? Celebrate your work with a movie premiere in the classroom.

In order to teach someone else about the CRC, you first need to learn more about it. Learn about what the CRC is and think about how it affects you, other children and adults.

Choose an article to immerse yourself in

Once you have learned more about the Convention on the Rights of the Child, it's time to choose an article to focus on. Here you will find questions that you can answer when writing your script for the movie.

  1. Which article have you chosen to feature and what is it about?
  2. Give three examples of when you use this right.
  3. Why is the right important for children?
  4. Give three examples of when it is important for children.
  5. How does this right work for children in other countries?
  6. Give three examples of when children in other countries use their right.
  7. What can children do when their rights are violated?
  8. What are the responsibilities of adults when their rights are violated?
  9. Give three examples of when the right is violated.
  10. What can children do and what must adults do when their rights are violated?
