Meet Emil, who works as a chef at a preschool. Emil is passionate about giving children the courage to try new food from all over the world. You will also learn how to grow your own cress.
Emil loved to cook when he was little. At first he thought he would be a carpenter, but he was good at cooking and he thought it was more fun. Now he works as a chef at a preschool and gets children to like food they've never tried before.
- The kids love it when I make corn pancakes with bulgur or broccoli soup. The hot smoked salmon is also a favorite! We try food from all over the world," says Emil.
Emil thinks it's important to dare to taste food you haven't eaten before. If you eat different types of food, you get more types of nutrition that your body needs. Then you can play more and learn more things.
- You don't have to like everything, but if you dare to try, you might find something new you like. The children start by smelling, looking and tasting a little. Sometimes the children think that food is better than candy, says Emil.
Sometimes Emil buys food that is almost too old but still edible. This saves the shop from throwing it away. He also throws away as little food as possible.
- I sometimes use potato peelings to make chips that the children can dip in garlic dressing. If there are potatoes and meat left over today, I make pyttipanna from the leftovers tomorrow.
Emil also cooks a lot of vegetarian food. It is food without meat. He has taught the children what cows give people and how cows affect the climate. He has also told them how food that is thrown away can become biogas, which is used to fuel buses and cars.
In India, many grow rice. In Republic of Moldova , many people grow grapes and in El Salvador, maize is commonly grown. Many people around the world also grow their own vegetables at home.
1. Place a piece of kitchen paper on a plate and spread the seeds evenly over the paper.
2. Water, preferably with a flower sprayer.
3. you can put some newspaper with a few holes in it to retain the moisture.
4. In the coming days, water at regular intervals.
The sprouts grow quickly and after just a few days you can pick them and put them on your sandwiches - or maybe on tacos!
You can also grow other seeds, such as chia seeds, broccoli seeds and mustard seeds.
Good luck to you!
