The need for Disaster relief is increasing in the world and is developing rapidly. Erikshjälpen acts before, during and after crises to help those most affected. Your Corporate can help provide people with necessary Disaster relief.
Erikshjälpen works with Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Risk Reduction. The aim is to save lives, reduce suffering and give people the conditions to live in dignity. Erikshjälpen works to quickly provide Disaster relief, such as food, hygiene items and shelter. We also help families and communities recover from disasters and prepare for future crises, so that children can dare to dream about the future again.
Erikshjälpen's humanitarian interventions take place mainly in the countries and areas where we already have established partners and projects.
Our aim is to act quickly, but also to stay behind to make sure that life can return, that everyday life with livelihoods, food and school gets going again.
By having money in Erikshjälpen's disaster fund, we can act quickly when a conflict, crisis or natural disaster occurs, instead of first having to wait for money to be collected for the specific crisis.
In every other country where Erikshjälpen works, the risk of children being affected by climate change is extremely high. Droughts, floods and other extreme weather destroy crops and lead to the death of livestock, causing families to lose both income and food on the table.
Millions of children around the world today have insecure access to food, due to climate change. Food insecurity leads to malnutrition, but also has other consequences, such as school dropout, child labor and the marriage of girls.
When families are in a desperate situation, the risk of children being exposed to violence, exploitation and trafficking also increases.
Erikshjälp's interventions during droughts and floods are often first about providing families with food, or money to buy food, and clean water in the acute situation.
Further interventions can include treating malnutrition and helping families and villages reduce their risk of being equally affected by a future crisis - for example, by adapting their agriculture, finding alternative sources of income, placing houses and crops at higher altitudes or creating water storage capacity.
Children do not start wars. Yet it is often children who suffer the most. They may be injured or killed themselves, they may lose one or more family members, they may be exploited as child soldiers and they are often forced to drop out of school. The risk of abuse and trafficking increases. Dreams and hopes for the future are shattered.
Erikshjälpen cannot prevent or influence the occurrence of a flood, or the escalation of a conflict. But we can influence how prepared people are and thus also how hard they are hit.
A family should not have to be hit by a disaster to get support, but be supported to cope better when disaster strikes. This can range from ensuring that communities and families are trained and know what to do when a disaster strikes, and have a small stockpile of food and supplies at home, to teaching families how to grow new types of crops that are more drought-resistant.
