Erikshjälpen helps families find sustainable livelihoods to avoid poverty, child labor, trafficking and hunger. Your Corporate can make a difference by supporting families to achieve a dignified livelihood.
Erikshjälpen supports families to find sustainable livelihoods through self-help groups, vocational training and climate-adapted cultivation.
One example is a project in Kenya where self-help groups support women to find long-term livelihoods, while farmers are provided with training and seeds to grow crops in an environmentally conscious way. Another example is that Erikshjälpen and Feed the Children Organization, FTCO, are working to drill deep wells with solar-powered pumps in Ethiopia, leading to better health and income opportunities for rural families.
Erikshjälpen helps Roma children and parents integrate into society in Romania. We provide children with educational opportunities and help their parents enter the workforce.
In this project we are working with our partner Kenosis. Kenosis is divided into two parts; Kenosis Design, which is a social carpentry company where Roma get jobs and where they make home furnishings and furniture, and an activity for children where about 60 children come after school for homework help and other activities.
Kenosis also helps with house renovations, hygiene and vocational training. They plan to buy land and build a larger premises to continue their work and act as a bridge between Roma and Romanians to achieve a more integrated and equitable community development.
In northern Bangladesh, the floods come every year after the monsoon season, which lasts from March to September. The floods destroy most things in their path and cause millions of people to lose their livelihoods.
In the Kurigram district alone, hundreds of thousands of people were affected during the last major flood and in the district, Erikshjälpen is working with the local organization Friendship to build communities that can both withstand and recover from the severe floods.
Thanks to the efforts of Erikshjälpen and Friendship, a pond for fish and vegetable cultivation is being built, as well as five tube wells, five latrines and a classroom. By building these flood-resilient communities, residents will have access to clean drinking water, sanitation and hygiene practices even during emergencies. At the same time, children can continue to go to school.
