The purpose of the Convention on the Rights of the Child is to strengthen children's legal status as rights holder.
Four articles are key principles
Four articles in the the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child are fundamental principles. This means that no matter which of the 54 articles is being discussed, these four fundamental principles must always be included.
The four main principles are:
- Article 2 - All children have equal rights and equal value.
- Article 3 - The best interests of the child shall be a primary consideration in all decisions concerning children.
- Article 6 - Every child has the right to survive and develop.
- Article 12 - Every child has the right to be listened to in matters concerning him or her.
