We work for an increased child rights-based approach in all our interventions as we are convinced that children can change the world. Therefore, we want to strengthen children's opportunities to be able to participate and make a difference.
A central part of Erikshjälpen's interventions and in the advocacy work we conduct in Sweden and the world, is based on a child rights-based approach with children and young people at the center.
Children's voices, experiences and stories are fundamental to our work. That is why meeting children and young people and hearing their stories is something that shapes everything from how our organization is governed to what issues we engage in.
We want to be a clear voice for vulnerable children and give them an opportunity to make their voice heard. It has always been part of our DNA, as Erikshjälpen's founder, Erik Nilsson, already as a child wrote letters, articles and newspapers for the benefit of children and young people, in Sweden and in countries around the world.
All Erikshjälpen's interventions are based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Sweden, along with 195 other countries, has signed and committed itself to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Convention contains 54 articles stating that children are individuals with their own rights, and is based on four fundamental principles:
Erikshjälpen works to ensure that this convention is complied with, both in Sweden and internationally, through our work for children. And the world they dream of.
