Aisha in Uganda talks about her home

Aisha lives in the town of Masaka in Uganda with her large family. Here she talks about her home, her city and what makes her feel safe.

Aisha's home - a peaceful place

Aisha is 13 years old and lives in Masaka town in Uganda. In the house where she lives there is a large living room and a bedroom. The living room is divided into two parts: one part is used as a kitchen and living room, and the other part is a bedroom. This is where Aisha sleeps.

She lives with her mother and her six siblings. Despite the large number of siblings, Aisha is happy.

-"I enjoy living in a big family," she says.

The best thing about Aisha's home is the peace and quiet.

-"I feel safe here at home," says Aisha.

What makes a city safe?

Aisha thinks it is important that people help each other in a city.

- If someone opens a store or starts a Corporate , we can help by shopping there," she says.

But if people are jealous of each other and don't support each other's success, it's harder to create security. This can affect the whole city, says Aisha.

If Corporate is forced to close, parents cannot earn money and children may have to drop out of school. Sometimes children attend schools where classes are so large that they don't learn enough. Then they may be forced to leave school to work on the streets instead.

Tabollar - Aisha's favorite game

In her spare time, Aisha likes to play with her friends. One of their favorite activities is Tabollar.

This is how they play Tabollar:

  1. Three people are needed.
  2. Two stand on either side and throw a ball between them.
  3. The third person stands in the middle and tries to catch the ball.
  4. If the one in the middle manages to catch the ball, it switches places with one of the others. Then the game starts all over again.
