How to wash your hands

It is important to wash your hands often. This will reduce the risk of getting infected or infecting others if you are ill. Washing your hands often and with soap and warm water is good.

Children all over the world are taught to wash their hands thoroughly so that they are completely clean. Rafiki has visited many countries and sees that all children wash their hands in much the same way. Below are pictures from Laos on how to wash your hands.

Proceed as follows

Start by wetting your hands with warm water and then use soap. Do not take such hot water that you burn yourself. Then follow the manual below step by step. 

1. soap the palms of your hands

2. soap the top of your hand and between your fingers

3. insert one thumb

4. Wash between your fingers with the inside of your hands facing each other

5. insert second thumb

6. Rub your fingertips against the inside of your hand

7. Wash your wrists

Remember to wash your hands when:

  • You have been outside and come back inside.
  • You have been to the toilet.
  • Your hands look dirty.
  • You will cook, bake or eat.
