Here you can read about Alice, aged 13, who was forced to flee her home when Russia invaded Ukraine. Her hometown Hostomel was subjected to bombing for several days. Now she has been allowed to return to her hometown, but the war still affects much of Alice's life.
Alice says she had to flee with her mother and older brother when the war came. When they fled, Alice only took a few things with her.
- I only got my backpack, an extra pair of shoes and my cell phone. My laptop was stolen," says Alice.
Now Alice is back in her hometown. During the war, she's seen many difficult things. But now she is in a safe and secure place with her brother. There she gets help to make her feel good again. She still goes to school.
Sometimes Alice is still afraid.
- "I usually draw and play with the cats so as not to be afraid," says Alice.
The house Alice lived in is now being repaired. Alice says she misses her things that she lost when she fled.
- Our house had been damaged. All the windows were broken and almost everything we owned had been stolen," says Alice.
Alice has attended a course with other young people. A course where you can get support to start studying or working. After completing the course, Alice can apply for money to realize her ideas.
- It was exciting to hear other young people's ideas. I don't have any ideas right now. But I have applied for a grant to buy a new laptop," says Alice.
